Never in my life have I tattooed my body in any way – and yes, that includes NO microblading. I’m terrified of needles, and refuse to expose my body to potential toxins and discomfort purely out of vanity. I’m also not a fan of fake eyelashes. They make my eyes feel extra heavy. Don’t get me wrong though… I DO have my vain side! Like any woman, I long for longer lashes and thicker “Cara Delevingne” eyebrows.
About a month ago, I was grooming my eyebrows and accidentally over-plucked. For days, I couldn’t be seen without make-up because of how horrendous it looked! I was angry at myself because I knew that my eyebrows do not grow quickly naturally. In fact, the last time I had a similar mess-up, it took my body almost a year to regrow the messed-up eyebrow back to normal. YIKES!
So now comes the surprisingly good news. I like to believe in all holistic approaches, whether it be for beauty or overall health. However, that doesn’t mean that I’m never skeptical of them. I had my reservations about castor oil being some sort of miracle oil that would regrow my wonky eyebrow, so it never crossed my mind to take photos. I was just a desperate gal hoping to fix her eyebrow naturally ASAP! I SO wish I did take those photos now though, to show the before & after. Fingers crossed NOT, but should I ever come across this sort of misfortune again, I will definitely do so and update this post.
Castor oil can be purchased in health food stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, or even online! Just make sure that it’s all natural with no additives. I’ve linked some of my Amazon favorites below! With daily application once a night for about two weeks, my botched eyebrow was back to normal. It sucked having to wear make-up for two weeks straight even just to go to the grocery store for a minute… but hey, two weeks is a whole lot better than a year, me thinks? LOL!
Now that both of my eyebrows look normal again, I’ve been continuing to apply castor oil nightly on both to thicken them. Asians tend to have sparse eyebrows, and unfortunately I am one of them. I’m also not the greatest at doing eyebrow make-up. But with castor oil thickening my eyebrows before my eyes, I’ve noticed not having to use as much eyebrow pomade to darken my brows, or spending a lot of time trying to perfect the shape for each one.
Having such a great experience with growing my eyebrows with castor oil, I decided to give it a shot on my lashes. I do have longer-than-average lashes for an Asian gal, but I won’t turn down thicker and even longer ones 😉 So far, I’ve been yielding similar results, though the results are much more noticeable on the eyebrows since I’ve been using castor oil on them longer.
Have you been curious about growing your lashes or eyebrows with castor oil?
Since castor oil is natural, there aren’t really any risks associated with trying. I would recommend doing a patch test on an inconspicuous part of your body first to ensure there’s no allergic reaction. Every body is different, so it’s best to do your homework and be on the safe side!*
Castor oil application is very simple. I like to start with my eyelashes and work my way onto my eyebrows:
- Thoroughly cleanse and tone your entire face, including the eye area.
- Dip a clean mascara wand into the castor oil. Tap any excess oil off. Have a Q-tip on hand to clean up any residue.
- Use the wand as you would with mascara on your eyelashes, but be careful not to get any of the oil into your eyes. Start at the inner corner of the eye, and then coat from root to tip. Repeat this step on the other eye.
- Use the Q-tip to run under the eye area to remove any excess castor oil.
- Apply the rest of the castor oil on the wand onto your eyebrows, making sure that you follow the direction of hair growth.
- Remove excess oil from the eyebrows using the other clean end of the Q-tip.
- Leave the castor oil on overnight, and wash your face as usual in the morning.
Remember that like with anything worthwhile, getting beautiful lashes and eyebrows with castor oil will take time. Ensure that you stick to the daily routine for best results. As far as time frame goes, it will vary from one person to another. Generally, people start to see results within six weeks of starting the regime – if not sooner (like me)! Patience is a virtue 🙂
*This is based solely on my own experience. I am NOT speaking for everyone, or making any claims that castor oil will guarantee the same results for every user. Use your best judgement if you decide to try the castor oil method for hair growth. Finally, don’t forget to listen to your body above all!
